Travel Trends for 2021
Small groups are the next BIG travel trend for 2021. As the global health situation evolves, many travelers are turning away from larger groups and big cruise ships. As a result, demand is increasing for small group tours and small ship cruising. By definition, these options have fewer people and more space for social distancing.
We’re seeing a few interesting trends for 2021 travel that will continue to shape the way travelers experience the world.
Small Group Tours
We’re seeing an increased interest in small group tours. These tours are often capped at 16 to 20 passengers, rather than 40 (or more!). Smaller groups allow for closer interaction with locals and guides and more space for social distancing. They also offer the ability to stay in smaller, boutique properties which are often in smaller towns or “off the beaten path”.
Small Ship and River Cruises
The appeal of a larger cruise vessels with capacities of 3,000 to 5,000 guests has diminished, and travelers are seeking more small ship and river cruises. River cruise ships often have fewer than 200 people on board. Similarly, small ship ocean vessels frequently have less than 600. Smaller ships have several advantages (in addition to fewer passengers) such as the ability to screen passengers more frequently, longer stays in port, and very few “at sea” days. Since these ships tend to be port intensive, they offer the ability to disembark virtually any time, so there is very little risk of being trapped at sea.
Private Group Travel in 2021
Private groups consisting of only the members of your party are becoming increasingly sought after. A private group can easily be designed and customized for you and your family (or other travel companions). This means that whether you have 2,4, or 10 (or more) passengers, your group can be segregated. Likewise, your exposure to people whose health status is unknown can be minimized. Whether you need a private villa, a chauffeured car/van, or a chartered boat, a custom experience for your group can be arranged.
See the USA
There is definitely a renewed interest in travel within the USA. More than half the respondents in a 2019 Forbes survey have visited 10 or fewer states. That means that there’s plenty of opportunity to explore right here at home. Ask us about a visit to the canyon lands in the Southwest, California (including wine country), or the Deep South (with many County Music cities/towns/venues). Now is a great time to see more of our beautiful country!
